NP-Mansfield downs Canton.

CANTON — North Penn-Mansfield scored twice in the first quarter off of a Brendan Hill 5-yard rush and a Joel Whitteker 5-yard reception to get out to an early 14-0 lead against Canton on Friday night.

To start the second quarter, NPM's Dylan Wesneski got behind the Canton secondary and caught an over-the-shoulder pass for a 35-yard touchdown. On their next possession, Canton quarterback Ridge Moore threw a deep pass to Timmy Ward in between two NPM defenders for a 25-yard touchdown to make the score 20-8.

NPM struck again just three minutes later with an 18-yard screen to Whitteker for their third touchdown of the night. Whitteker would finish the night with five catches for 27 yards and two touchdowns. NPM then pulled away on Canton's next possession, NPM's Justice Giarth stripped Canton's Gavin Hoffman of the football in Canton territory and NPM recovered in prime field position. Brendan Hill then scored on a 4-yard run with two minutes left in the half. Hill finished the night with 14 attempts for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

In the second half, NPM back-up quarterback Brock Burleigh scored on a 7-yard run to finish the scoring at 42-8.

Canton's Ridge Moore finished the night with 5 of 12 passing for 91 yards with one touchdown and one interception and Michael Smithers finished the night one for two passing for 5 yards. He also rushed six times for 31 yards. James Bowman rushed 11 times for 22 yards, Gavin Hoffman rushed eight times for 10 yards, Tim Davis ran the ball twice for 5 yards and Levi Gaiotti rushed three times for 9 yards for Canton. Timmy Ward finished with two receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown, Gaiotti caught one ball for 11 yards, Kobe Walker caught one pass for 23 yards and Tim Davis caught one pass for 5 yards.

NPM's Brent Burleigh was 13 of 19 passing for 81 yards and three touchdowns. Brock Burleigh finished two of two passing for 22 yards. Kipper Hillson ran the ball eight times for 21 yards, Mason Gee handled the ball twice for 22 yards, Don Edwards III ran the ball eight times for 25 yards and Whitteker had two rushes for 16 yards. Garrett Bickhart caught five passes for 4 yards and Justin King caught one pass for 8 yards for NPM.

Next week, North Penn Mansfield is home against Bucktail and Canton will play Towanda at home.
