Game Results - 2010
Week 1 – The Eagles are unstoppable for 12 minutes and are up 20-0 at the end of the first quarter. Fortunately, the Tigers are unstoppable for the next 36 minutes and defeat Line Mountain 49-20 for their first win of a tough season schedule (Stats: Offense; Defense). Next week, Southern travels to Montoursville to continue a very tight series with the Warriors.
Week 2 – No 4th quarter tension this time as the Tigers' balanced attack is too much for the Warriors and Southern defeats Montoursville 42-6 (Stats: Offense; Defense). Next up, the home opener against an undefeated Shamokin team plus the first ever Alumni Game recognizing the 1983 Eastern Conference Champion team.
Week 3 – In a test of tough physical defenses, the Shamokin Indians blink and the Tigers run and pass their way to a third straight victory 42-13 (Stats: Offense; Defense). Southern hits the road next week to take on “that other Columbia”, the Central Columbia Blue Jays.
Week 4 – The young Blue Jays have some talented players but they are overwhelmed by the Tigers' talent and experience as Southern defeats Central Columbia 37-0 (Stats: Offense; Defense). It's time for Homecoming next week as the Green Dragons of Lewisburg bring their undefeated record to Tiger Stadium.
Week 5 – Five years ago, the Tigers lost to Warrior Run during Fair Week 21-28 in a game full of crazy plays and bad luck. History repeats itself this Fair Week as five turnovers, crazy plays and bad luck spell doom and Southern suffers their first loss of the season to the Lewisburg Green Dragons 21-28 (Stats: Offense; Defense). Up next the string of undefeated teams on the schedule continues when the Bloomsburg Panthers come to town.
Week 6 – The Tigers' running game comes alive as Southern hands the Bloomsburg Panthers their first loss of the season 41-14 (Stats: Offense; Defense). Next week, the Tigers travel to Danville to take on the Ironmen, their third undefeated opponent in as many weeks.
Week 7 – Sometimes you just get outplayed. That was the case as the Tigers fall to the Danville Ironmen 18-28 in front of a huge Friday night crowd (Stats: Offense; Defense). Southern continues its tour of AA playoff teams with a visit to Loyalsock Township next week.
Week 8 – The Tigers hold the Lancers to exactly 0 yards rushing but give up over 350 yards in the passing game; meanwhile the Southern offense mixes six turnovers with over 500 yards of offense to defeat Loyalsock 56-42 (Stats: Offense; Defense). Coming up, the Red Tornadoes bring their identical 6-2 record to Tiger Stadium next week.
Week 9 – Wow. An instant classic as Southern holds off a late charge from the Red Tornadoes and the Tigers defeat Mt Carmel 17-14 (Stats: Offense; Defense). The regular season concludes next week as the defending AAA State Champ Selinsgrove Seals come to Tiger Stadium for Senior Night .
Week 10 – So that's what a complete game looks like. Southern plays inspired football and locks in home field for the District playoffs by overwhelming the Selinsgrove Seals 48-7 (Stats: Offense; Defense). The second season begins next week with the Canton Warriors invading the Tigers' lair for the District 4-A Semifinal.
Week 11 District Semi-final - In a season full of weird and wild games this one may just take the cake. The Tigers invoke the mercy rule for the second half and pull the starters but Canton has other ideas. Still, Southern moves on by defeating the Warriors 68-52 (Stats: Offense; Defense). Next week Southern gets another shot at Line Mountain when the Eagles make the flight to Tiger Stadium for their fifth straight District 4 Final appearance.
Week 12 District Final – The Tigers are playing their best football and it shows in the score as Southern wins its State record 19th District 4 Championship over the Line Mountain Eagles 48-13 (Stats: Offense; Defense). The State playoffs begin next week with a trip to Peckville where the Tigers take on the District 2 Champ Riverside Vikings.
Week 13 State Playoff – A tough end to a very tough season as Southern falls 0-36 to the Riverside Vikings (Stats: Offense; Defense). Congratulations to the Tigers and especially the seniors on an exciting 10-win season. Next season returns a determined group of seniors plus the program's 400th win is in sight.
